White Island
Sitting 49km off the coast of New Zealand’s North Island, White Island (Whakaari) is one of the world’s most accessible live volcanoes. With the majority of the volcano sitting beneath the sea, visitors are able to disembark directly into the crater complex – no mountain climbing required.
Once on land, experienced guides will lead you on a 1.5 hour exploration of the inner crater, providing a captivating commentary on the geology of the island and man’s attempts to mine Sulphur.
Lunch will be served back on the boat as you cruise and see the outer walls of the island, abundant with Pohutukawa and Australasian Gannet colonies. The area is also home to dolphins, whales, and other marine life, and viewing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat is a great way to end the day.
